My London – Part IV

I love London! ❤

Welcome to the latest in “My London” series.

I am often asked for cute restaurant suggestions or coffee shop recommendations. The awful truth is that London has so much to offer. With an ever changing gastronomic landscape, it is difficult for me to recommend an absolute essential. However, I do have a very favourite American style bakery! The beautiful, quaint, petite, sweet tooth satisfying Hummingbird Bakery. This is a well established London bakery, and perhaps the closest we have in London to New York’s world famous, mouth watering Magnolia Bakery.

Hummingbird Bakery now has several locations dotted around Central London, but the ones I frequent the most are their South Kensington and Notting Hill branches. These are perfect for sightseeing days as the South Kensington bakery is surrounded by London’s museum district (V&A, Natural History Museum, Science Museum). The Notting Hill bakery is located on the very famous Portobello Road, known the world over for the Portobello Road Market, which is of course the world’s largest antique’s market. The movie buffs out there will most certainly be thinking about the movie Notting Hill (” whoopsiedaisies ” 😀 )

The bakeries are small with limited seating areas, so you will need to be patient if you plan to eat in. Do not be surprised if you find a queue running out onto the pavement, especially on a Saturday afternoon. On a sunny day, I think it is worth taking your orders away with you for a makeshift picnic in neighbouring Hyde Park or Kensington Gardens which are 10 minutes walk from both stores. The best birthday cake I ever had was of course from Hummingbird Bakery. It was a delicious 3-tiered Red Velvet Cake, which is my absolute favourite of all their creations! You will not be disappointed if you choose one of their Red Velvet Cupcakes, but their massive selection of flavoursome and colourful cupcakes, cakes, whoopie pies and brownies is wonderful! You will be hard pressed to make a decision on what to have! So good luck with that 😀 hehe!!

Hummingbird Bakery is so well loved that they even have an international presence in Dubai now. So if there are any Emiratis reading this right now, City Walk and Dubai Mall are where you need to go!

Well ladies and gentlemen, this has been a difficult post to write, as I now have a serious craving for a Hummingbird cupcake! I will leave you with a few photos of my latest visit to the South Kensington bakery, whilst I head over there to satisfy my sudden craving!

Ciao for now!!
